Workout videos fit for the new year
The dust has long since settled on the treadmills consumers bought and left infrequently used in the garage. They also are growing tired of at-home step routines and plain, old aerobics tapes. With New Year's coming up and the resolutions that come with it--particularly the old standby, to get in better shape--fitness products are heating up again.
The GoddessLife Goddess Workout series will have a new addition next month with the launch of "Belly-dance with Veils," which seeks to take a woman's attention away from a pound-losing focus to one a little more spiritual. With moves designed for use with a veil, which accompanies the VHS/DVD, the workout places emphasis on femininity and sensuality--neither of which is particularly abundant in sweat-drenched, weight-filled gyms.
Living room DVD players also are being filled with workouts that mirror trendy programs being offered at the gym. In fact, gyms themselves are getting into the mix, offering such workouts as "Crunch Cardio Salsa" and "Crunch Fat-Burning Pilates."
And for consumers who feel too time crunched to work out at home or who just don't know how to get started, Anchor Bay Entertainment and For Dummies have teamed up to offer "15-Minute Workout for Dummies" and "Stability Workout for Dummies."
Considering the relatively high-dollar rings and high margins related to these products, having a handle on what's new can make the difference in the new year.
